Yang Jinghua, deputy director of the Standing Committee of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region's People's Congress, said on Tuesday that the region has made the light textile industry a key industrial cluster, and the production of silk cocoons and silk accounts for more than 50 percent and 30 percent of the country's total, respectively. Guangxi also has five national-level textile and garment industry bases, with nearly 300 textile and garment manufacturing enterprises above designated size and more than 7,000 trading enterprises.

On the same day, the 2023 Guangxi ASEAN International Textile and Garment Industry Expo, organized by the China-Asean Expo Secretariat, the China Chamber of Commerce for Textile Importers and Exporters, the Guangxi Chamber of Commerce, China Machinery International Cooperation Co., LTD., and Guangxi International Expo Group Co., LTD., opened in Nanning.

Yang Jinghua introduced that the textile and garment industry is China's traditional pillar industry. In recent years, Guangxi has taken advantage of its proximity to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and ASEAN to build a light textile industry cluster, making light textile industry chain one of the 15 key industrial chains in the region. Relying on the unique location of being connected to ASEAN by land and sea, as well as the advantages of convenient transportation and abundant water resources, Guangxi's textile and garment industry has achieved development and broad prospects. The Expo will build a platform for the integration of garment production, education, research and marketing, which will help improve the whole industrial chain of Guangxi textile industry, cultivate leading enterprises and radiate to ASEAN countries.

Yang Zhaohua, Vice president of China National Textile Industry Council, introduced on the same day that faced with the complex international environment and repeated impact of the epidemic, China's textile industry is under pressure. In 2022, the industry's 36,000 enterprises above designated size achieved the main revenue of 5.2 trillion yuan, the total export of textiles and clothing hit a record high, and ASEAN became the largest export market of China's textile industry for the first time. With the implementation of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP), the regional advantages, channel advantages and resource advantages of developing the garment industry in Guangxi will be further released. Guangxi can actively guide enterprises to increase exports to ASEAN countries, open up public markets for textile enterprises in the east coast of China, and help build a dual-cycle development pattern of the industry.

It is understood that the expo site set up 10 exhibition areas, exhibition area of 20,000 square meters, a total of more than 600 booths, gathered more than 400 textile and garment enterprises from Guangdong, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Anhui, Zhejiang, Fujian and other places.
