On January 15th, the 2025 Annual Conference of the Carbon Fiber Branch of the China Chemical Fibers Association was held in Shanghai. Vice President of the China Textile Industry Federation, Deng Xiaoping; President of the China Composites Society and Chinese Academy of Engineering Fellow Yu Jianyong; President of the China Chemical Fibers Association, Chen Xinyu; Vice President Jin Gaoling, as well as representatives from major carbon fiber production and related enterprises in China, attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Zhang Zixin, the Secretary-General of the Carbon Fiber Branch of the China Chemical Fibers Association.

Deng Xiaoping, the vice president of the China Textile Industry Federation, stated in his speech that: Firstly, we should firmly believe in the domestic carbon fiber industry. The carbon fiber and composite materials industry is an important component of the future industry. Secondly, we should recognize the development laws of the industry. Under a long-term perspective, the industry is in a state of rapid development, but it is also bound to undergo multiple rounds of industry adjustments and survival of the fittest, and market concentration will gradually increase. Thirdly, the carbon fiber technology is in a period of rapid progress and iterative cycle. Enterprises should take small steps and proceed steadily, maintaining advanced technology while seeking new downstream growth points for wind power, and extending the industrial chain, and paying attention to technologies such as composite material repair, recycling and reuse, and hybridization.

Chinese Academy of Engineering member Yu Jianyong pointed out in his speech that domestic carbon fibers are currently in a new stage of steadily transitioning from quantitative expansion to qualitative improvement in technological upgrading. The global demand for carbon fibers shows structural changes, providing excellent development space for the development of domestic carbon fibers. However, it is necessary to be clearly aware that the development of the carbon fiber industry also faces issues such as the need to improve production capacity utilization, and the gap between the performance of high-end products and that of the world's top products. In particular, attention should be paid to how to achieve the development of applications, further strengthening the dominant position, increasing research and development investment, promoting the industrialization application of technological achievements, and achieving scale and cost-saving development to enhance core competitiveness.

At the meeting, Liu Yong, an associate researcher from Donghua University, presented a report titled "Current Situation and Development Trends of the Carbon Fiber Industry", introducing the current state of the industry and making an outlook for it. Yuan Ye, the deputy secretary-general of the Carbon Fiber Branch of the China Chemical Fibers Association, introduced "Research on the '15-16' Development Plan for High-Performance Fibers (Draft)". The attending representatives respectively presented their production and operation situations and market supply and demand conditions since 2025. They conducted in-depth discussions on the current stage of the carbon fiber industry facing phased overcapacity, price decline, demand fluctuations, and internal pressure. They also put forward suggestions and opinions on the "15-16" development plan for the high-performance fiber industry, jointly exploring the path of high-quality development of the carbon fiber industry. Tan Kunlun, the rotating president of the Carbon Fiber Branch of the China Chemical Fibers Association, summarized the work of this branch. He pointed out that the carbon fiber branch should build a platform for the industry, unite the efforts of upstream and downstream enterprises, pay attention to resource integration, avoid going it alone, lead the industry to reach a unified understanding, correctly view the common problems of the industry such as internal competition, and increase efforts to develop low-cost processes and core equipment, and jointly promote the healthy and orderly development of the industry.
